Denantes today :

A business defined by its family history for 12 generations, since 1723.

It is in Voiron, France, in the heart of the Chartreuse mountains, that the story still goes on.

Today, Denantes is a leader in decoration and textiles for hotels, restaurants, holiday clubs, professional laundries and public accommodations.

The company's success is based on strong values, a network of sales representatives, the know-how of a workshop with an expert workforce in textile manufacturing in France, along with environmental and social commitments.

In the 18th century, looms were set up in the farms all around the Dauphiné region on behalf of the company, testifying our deep roots in the local and regional economic fabric. Today, this precious tradition remains alive in the workshop, where the seamstresses make a range of made-to-measure items such as tablecloths, towels, curtains, net curtains, bedspreads and bed runners.

Denantes, the essence of a priceless heritage, is now controlled by Quiterie et Guiral de Montclos. The company employs nearly 200 people in France and abroad.

1680

Charles Champollion the ancestor of the famous Egyptologist became a master weaver in Voiron. At the time, the region specialized in the sale of locally-grown hemp cloth, which was already being exported as far as America.

1723

After marrying Barbe Champollion in 1719, Michel Denantes gave his name to the company.

1756

The company changed its name to Jacques Denantes Père et Fils, a name it kept until the 20th century. It was also during this period that the company exhibited at the historic Beaucaire and Tarascon fairs.

1785

Marc-Antoine Denantes is at the head of the company. At the end of this first century of existence, the hemp production was transported from Voiron by boat to the retail sites and fairs, which had become not-to-be-missed events.

1825

Under the direction of Jacques Denantes, the company's business underwent a major transformation as a result of technological advances in the textile industry in the 18th and 19th centuries.

1845

During this period, the company, run by Joseph-Guy Denantes, saw the simultaneous arrival of cotton, which overturned the domination of hemp, and the development of means of transport that facilitated the exchange of goods.

1865

After Victor Denantes took over as head of the company, he was soon sought by peddlers from mountainous regions. The Voiron fabric was then exported beyond its historic mountains.

1895

Hélène De Montclos married Paul de Montclos, thus linking her family to the Denantes line. The sale of finished products also developed, in particular through the production of trousseaux for young girls, which were to be a success for Denantes until the middle of the 20th century.

1929

To build customer loyalty, Joseph De Montclos, with the support of Denantes, developed a system that was the forerunner of today's consumer credit. The company's structure evolved, and it now played the role of both wholesaler and financier.

1948

Louis and Marguerite De Montclos were the couple who, in the second half of the 20th century, repositioned Denantes towards the sale of household linen to workshops and hirers, and later to hoteliers and local collectives.

1977

Louis de Montclos hands over the keys to the company to his son Hervé, aged 24. After a difficult period in 1975, he relaunched the company, which became the first in France to market polyester table linen, which is easier to care for than cotton..

2020

The 12th generation, Quiterie and Guiral, have joined Denantes, ready to take on new challenges to continue developing this fine heritage.
