Colussi today :

The Colussi Group is an Italian family-owned business that operates in the food sector. Its story began in 1791 with Giacomo Colussi, owner of a bakery in Venice, forebear and precursor of the family craft. From Giacomo onwards, the business has been handed down to subsequent generations, together with the passion for know-how and the constant pursuit of excellence. Today, with the sixth and seventh generations, the family continues to play an active and decisive role.

The Colussi Group produces and distributes a wide range of products in the bakery, pasta and chocolate sectors in about 80 countries. Its product line, comprising 12 product categories, covers a diversified range and targets numerous types of consumers.

The brand plays a fundamental role within the Group, which is characterized by a portfolio of historic Italian brands that are symbols of tradition and innovation, including: Colussi 1791, the bakery products of the Italian tradition; Misura: a reference brand in the world of healthy food, Sapori 1832: authentic Tuscan pastry; Agnesi 1824: semolina pasta symbol of excellence since 1824; and Vialetto, which offers a unique experience in chocolate characterized by experimentation, aesthetics and originality.

The Colussi Group operates through 11 production plants, 6 of which are in Italy and 5 abroad. 53% of the turnover is generated in Italy and 47% abroad (foreign companies and exports).

The Colussi Group, inspired by values passed down through generations, is dedicated with passion and commitment to ensuring quality and excellence, proactively responding to consumer needs and promoting a sustainable food model. Today, the strategy focuses on two main objectives: brand development and international expansion. Our commitment is aimed at strengthening brands by improving existing products and continuously innovating. At the same time, we aim to expand our presence in new markets and consolidate our position in existing ones. This is achieved through a combination of initiatives: innovation, strategic partnerships, and acquisitions.

1500 - 1700

The Colussi’s are originally from Pianàz in the upper Val di Zoldo, in the Belluno area. Like many other inhabitants of the area, they went to Venice during the winter months in search of work as street vendors of ciambelle (donuts), zaletti (typical biscuits made with corn flour) and cooked pears, and then returned home in the spring. In Venice, they joined the ranks of bakers, where they also baked their biscuits which they then sold meandering through the streets and squares.

Some members of the Colussi family became bakers and bakery owners in Venice as early as the seventeenth century, establishing themselves and holding important positions in the “Arte dei fornèri” (Bakers’ Guild), such as that of "Gastaldo," a leading role from a social point of view and in relations with the State.

The association of bakers and bakery owners, established in 1701, already listed Piero and Tommaso Colussi as members of the Guild (State Archives of Venice)

1791

In 1791 Giacomo Colussi was born. Giacomo soon proved to be very enterprising and determined and, with his shop opened in rio Terà San Leonardo 1697, marked a milestone in the lineage of the Colussi Manéta bakers, precursor and forebear of subsequent generations of artisans and biscuit and pastry industrialists, following a family tradition that was already a hundred years old.

1850 - 1900

Giacomo's children: Paulo, Sante and Pietro continued to manage the family bakeries in Venice, becoming an essential point of reference for their grandsons Giacomo, Paolo, Cesare and Eugenio. They further expanded the family business, creating a network of bakeries and pastry shops that was known for its excellence throughout the city.

1911

In 1911, the youngest of Giacomo Colussi's sons, Angelo, continued in the family business by successfully managing a biscuit factory specializing in baicoli and amaretti in San Vio, in the Dorsoduro district. The biscuit factory expanded in the following years. Angelo added a much wider range of products to the baicoli production: amaretti, wafers, candies and other specialties.

1930 - 1940

The need to find new market outlets for his bakery products prompted Angelo to create a direct sales network, so as to ensure a privileged trade channel. Angelo Colussi opened a series of shops and pastry shops in the north of Italy. His son Giacomo began to work steadily alongside him.

1949

Giacomo opened a new factory in Umbria, considered an area of great interest and development for access to the central-southern market.

1976

Angelo, Giacomo's son, joined the company; today, he is the Chairman of the Colussi Group. Angelo began an articulated process of development through acquisitions and led the company towards international development.

2023

Today, with the sixth and seventh generations, the family continues to play an active and decisive role. Angelo's children, Giulia, Giacomo and Camilla are all involved in the operational management and part of the Board of Directors and Giacomo is now the CEO.
