At its head were practically-minded widows, young entrepreneurs and astute patriarchs.
Group policy is based on the fundamental principle of honour in business dealings, its presence in markets in which its skills can be used to good advantage, and the flexibility of a vast industrial infrastructure.
Whilst specialising in food products and specific ingredients delivered from stock, Van Eeghen has also been able to diversify into other sectors and, aware of the development of new markets, create permanent synergy between all its activities.
With the purpose of meeting health, taste and quality requirements, all of which constantly change in the food industry, Van Eeghen encourages research both inside and outside the Group.
Communications and Precious Metals
Compared with the food sector, diversification and investments in other fields remain of secondary importance.
The main business activity of La Intrata Overseas b.v., subsidiary of Van Eeghen, is the extraction of precious metals from waste materials from foreign sources, destined for recycling and refinement. Originally, this activity was carried out in Eastern Africa.
Communications, which have held a high place in Group priorities since the 17th century, in the age of merchant shipping, are another area of activity for Intrata Overseas b.v. at the dawning of the 21st century and satellite links.
Over three centuries of trading have also created long-lasting links and affinities between Van Eeghen and the city of Amsterdam, a major seaport and financial centre.
Emerging Markets
The newest branch of the Van Eeghen Group of Companies, Van Eeghen International Overseas B.V., is a special unit capable of taking on new challenges in developing markets, backed by the Group's experience and special position in the international business world, particularly with Eastern Europe and Third World countries.

For 14 generations, its name has been associated with business prosperity in the Netherlands.
Ever since the Golden Age, the Van Eeghen Company has been at the very heart of "food product trading": grain in the Baltic, salt in France and herring in the Netherlands. Later, it became involved in the navigation sector and trading with the colonies, especially Indonesia, holding American bonds or carrying out banking operations, depending on the circumstances.

The Food Sector, Kingpin of the Group
In three centuries, the Van Eeghen Group of Companies, basically a flexible business company, has built up an efficient industrial development infrastructure.
Van Eeghen International b.v., created at the end of the 1950's, specialises in food products and specific ingredients used in food processing: minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants, emulsifiers, flavouring products, flavour enhancers, natural colouring agents and sorbitol and yeast extracts.
The vast knowledge acquired by the Van Eeghen network in the food sector provides significant added value to these products.
They were bought "qua patet orbis", stored and supplied from stock in warehouses in four major head offices, located in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States.
The company is also present on the specific chemical colouring agent market.

1993 |
In 1993, Van Eeghen International invested in the setting up of a reprocessing unit (Mouw Van Eeghen Fijnmakerij) in Ermelo, the Netherlands, to supply the large food processing companies with customised products.
The company is equipped with a complete range of machinery to wash, grind and mix a wide range of basic ingredients, enabling it to meet specific customer requirements and to offer its customers approved high quality products, processed in accordance with international standards.
